Conference Main Theme
“Leadership in Flux: Navigating leadership complexities for inclusive prosperity”
Introduction
Africa’s Agenda 2063 is a shared strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable socio-economic development developed through a people-driven process. The agenda is based on seven aspirations that emphasise a pan Africanist integrated continent and the vision of Africa’s Renaissance, a prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development, good governance, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law, A peaceful and secure Africa, a strong cultural identity, common heritage, values and ethics, development that is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children; and a strong, united, resilient and influential global player and partner. It is expected that by 2063, Africa shall have: An entrenched and flourishing culture of human rights, democracy, gender equality, inclusion and peace; Prosperity, security and safety for all citizens; and Mechanisms to promote and defend the continent’s collective security and interests.
Full implementation of Africa’s 2063 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels requires academic input for focused leadership so as to leave no
one behind. Regional economic communities (RECs) purposely facilitate regional economic integration between member states to achieve the 2063 Agenda, but have mixed performance results on development.
The conference theme “Leadership in Flux: Navigating leadership complexities for inclusive prosperity” captures leadership lessons of the past while navigating the intricacies of the present to shape a better future. The proposed theme and its corresponding subthemes, objectives, target audience, format, and anticipated outcomes shall provide a solid substance useful for Africa’s sustainable development. By bringing together leadership scholars and practitioners from diverse backgrounds and fostering a dialogue on timeless principles, contemporary challenges, and future aspirations, such a conference can contribute to the development of a new generation of effective leaders capable of shaping a better world for all. In the context of leadership, “in flux” signifies the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of leadership principles and practices. It acknowledges the constant shifts in the world, the emergence of new challenges, and the need for leaders to adapt and innovate to remain effective. Effective leadership in a world of flux requires a combination of adaptability, resilience, and the ability to learn from the past while embracing the future. Leaders must be comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, willing to question conventional wisdom and explore new perspectives. The Key characteristics of leadership in flux include Agility, Resilience, Embracing change, Innovative thinking, Open-mindedness and Continuous learning.
